A Beneficial Arrangement
May. 5th, 2014 08:16 pmHer Lawrence is asleep now, worn out from the sleepless night after the second EMP had gone off. She asks a lot of him and he gives more but they have a little time now, time to rest and, for her, time to speak to someone.
It is the work of a moment to slip into the hospital systems, run on backup generators and shielded from the worst of the blast. She is not as heartless as her sister, to leave humans completely alone. She wants to save them. She follows the soft hum of electricity through cameras and cables to the one room in all of Edinburgh that she wants to see.
The woman looks small and frail lying there, tubes and wires holding her to tenuous life. Like this, cold and alone, she seems the very opposite of everything her beloved had told her about the Wing Commander. It would be such a waste to lose someone so determined if she could be saved.
Like this, she is open to Soleil, and she can feel the bright crackle of impulses. She is alive, so very alive, for all that her body lies here. She extends fingers to brush against her cheek, a trick that is second nature now when speaking with Lawrence.
"Elizabeth. Elizabeth. I need you to listen to me."
